Genetics in Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Abstract: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) remains a leading cause of visual loss in the developed world, and genetic factors are known risks for disease development, as well as affecting response to therapy. Here, we review genetic factors associated with AMD and the influence of genetics on the understanding of AMD pathogenesis. The potential role of genetics in assisting in the management of AMD and future research avenues are also discussed.
