Genome Sequence of Brevundimonas sp., an Arsenic Resistant Soil Bacterium

Abstract: Brevundimonas sp. is a bacteria able to grow in metal(loid) contaminated soil from Puchuncaví Valley, central Chile. This study has isolated a bacterial strain capable of growth under high doses of arsenic (As) (6000 mg L−1), and a draft genome sequence was generated. Additionally, real-time PCR was performed to examine the effect of As on some genes related to As resistance. Results demonstrated a total of 3275 predicted annotated genes with several genes related to the ars operon, metal(loid) resistance-rela… Show more

“…The relative abundances of Massilia and Bacillus decreased, whereas those of Brevundimonas and Flavobacterium increased significantly with NH 4 + -N application. These four genera have also been reported in highly As-contaminated aquifers and flooded paddy soils. , Massilia can reduce As(V) to As(III) and effectively enhance As mobilization in the soil …”

“…44,45 Massilia can reduce As(V) to As(III) and effectively enhance As mobilization in the soil. 46 Bacillus is an As(V)reducing bacterium that has shown a significant positive correlation with the arrA gene. 45 Brevundimonas plays an important role in As resistance, and some of its bacterial strains, such as Brevundimonas aurantiaca PFAB1, occurring in hot springs, exhibit As(V) reductase activity.…”

“…Similarly, Methylotenera and Methylobacterium , known methylotrophic genera that utilizes methanol and other one-carbon compounds as a carbon and energy source, were also the other indicator taxa identified. These taxa encompasses several species known to play important roles in environmental processes such as acidity and metal resistance, sulfur metabolism, organic matter degradation and community interactions, key to their survival in AMD-contaminated soils [ 56 , 57 ]. They are recognized for their contributions to the remediation of contaminated sites such as acid mine drainage (AMD) soils.…”

“…Brevundimonas have been mainly identified and isolated from sedimented waters [101], rivers [102], and soil samples [103][104][105]. Brevundimonas strains have also been identified and isolated for heavy metal bioremediation [106,107], cadmium and zinc bioremediation [108], and arsenic resistance [109,110]. Mycolicibacterium is a non-tuberculous identified and isolated in cotton fields [111], peat bogs [112], sea coasts [113], and mangrove sediments [114].…”
