Genome-wide identification and characterization of Dof transcription factors in eggplant (Solanum melongenaL.)

Abstract: Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is an important vegetable cultivated in Asia, Africa and southern Europe and, following tomato and pepper, ranks as the third most important solanaceous vegetable crop. The Dof (DNA-binding with one finger) family is a group of plant-specific transcription factors that play important roles in plant growth, development, and response to biotic and abiotic stresses. The genes in the Dof family have been identified and analysed in many plant species, but the information remains lack… Show more

“…Subsequently, a large number of Dof genes have been found in different plant genomes. The number of Dof genes identified from genome-based surveys varies depending on the plant species, such as 36 in A. thaliana [3], 30 in rice [32], 26 in barley [33], 28 in sorghum [34], 27 in Brachypodium distachyon [35], 34 in tomato [36], 46 in maize [37], 36 in cucumber [38], 33 in pepper [39] and 29 in eggplants [40]. Common wheat, as an allohexaploid species, has a huge genome (up to 17 GB) and more than 85% repeat sequences, leading to the slow progress of wheat genome sequencing.…”

“…Heat maps showing the global transcription patterns of hot pepper Dof genes were generated based on publicly available RNA-seq data for the plant tissues in different developmental stages and varieties [51] (Table 1). On the other hand, the expression analysis Dof genes undertaken in eggplant varieties, some genes were not expressed (SmeDof25 and SmeDof4), and others were extremely low (SmeDof19, SmeDof20, and SmeDof22) and high (SmeDof17, SmeDof23) which may be promising for the development of transgenic lines [52]. Similarly, the StDof gene expression profiles in potato were analyzed in leaves, shoots, roots, stolons (hooked apex stolon), swelling stolons and mature tuber.…”
