Genome-wide identification of AP2/ERF transcription factors in mungbean (Vigna radiata) and expression profiling of the VrDREB subfamily under drought stress

Abstract: Mungbean (Vigna radiata L.) is a valuable legume crop grown in tropical and subtropical areas of Asia. Drought is one of the major factors hindering its growth globally. APETALA2/ethylene-responsive element factor binding proteins (AP2/ERF) are an important family of plant-specific transcription factors (TFs) involved in drought-stress tolerance. We identified 71 AP2/ERF TFs in the mungbean genome by using bioinformatics tools and classified them into subfamilies: AP2 (16 members), ERF (22), RAV (2), DREB (30)… Show more

“…The DREB gene family has expanded significantly, allowing for more extensive and complex functional distinction. For instance, 30 DREB genes have been characterized in mung bean, five of which are highly expressed under drought stress (Labbo et al, 2018). In barley, 41 DREB genes have been discovered, many of which are expressed in drought and salt stress (Guo et al, 2016).…”

“…There are 39 DREB genes in the jujube genome, and ZjDREB39 has been confirmed to positively participate in jujube fruit ripening (Zhang and Li, 2018). Thirty DREB proteins of Vigna radiata, a valuable legume crop for which drought is one of the major factors hindering its growth, have been characterized, five of which are highly expressed when the plant has been exposed to drought stress by withholding water for 7 days (Labbo et al, 2018). There are 81 and 99 DREB-encoding genes in Musa acuminata (A genome) and Musa balbisiana (B genome), respectively, twice as many in Citrus sativus and more than 1.5 times that in Arabidopsis (Lakhwani et al, 2016).…”

“…However, knowledge of FvDREB genes is limited. Gene structure analysis of FvDREBs revealed that 93.75% of FvDREBs were intronless, which was higher than that of rice, maize, and other plants (Jin et al, 2018;Labbo et al, 2018). Motif analysis showed that all FvDREB protein sequences had motifs related to the AP2 domain and demonstrated that the AP2 domain was highly conserved in FvDREBs.…”
