Genome‐wide identification of touch‐ and darkness‐regulated Arabidopsis genes: a focus on calmodulin‐like and XTH genes

Abstract: Summary• We sought to gain insight into functions potentially altered by mechanostimulation and investigate the relationship between touch and darkness responses.• Microarrays and quantitative RT-PCR were conducted to identify genes and analyze behaviors of calmodulin-like ( CML ) and xyloglucan endotransglucosylase/hydrolase ( XTH ) genes.• Strikingly, 589 genes had touch-inducible expression; 171 had reduced expression. Darkness increased expression of 461 genes and decreased expression of 72 genes. Over hal… Show more

“…The expression levels of CYP707A1 (a putative VIP1 target gene), CYP707A3, MYB44, EXPANSIN-LIKE A1 (EXLA1), EXLA2, and XTH23 (putative VIP1 target genes up-regulated by hypoosmotic stress; Pitzschke et al, 2009;Tsugama et al, 2014), TCH2 and TCH4 (touch-responsive genes; Lee et al, 2005), and PDH1 (a hypoosmotic stress-responsive gene; Nakashima et al, 1998) were examined in VIP1-SRDXox #7 and #4, the latter of which has a lower expression level of VIP1-SRDX ( Fig. 2C; Supplemental Fig.…”

“…This suggests mechanical manipulations may directly affect mitochondrial function. The touch-and woundingrelated microarray expression data suggest that mitochondrial dicarboxylate carriers (DICs) are among the most highly induced genes (Lee et al, 2005). Therefore, we tested if transcripts for the three Arabidopsis DIC genes are responding to the mock spray treatment presented in Figure 5B.…”
