Genotoxicological Assessment of Nebuloside-A a Triterpenoid Saponin Compound on Whole Blood DNA

Abstract: We investigated the genotoxic effect of nebuloside-A on whole blood DNA by using alkaline Single Cell Gel Electrophoresis Comet assay. Saponins are a widespread class of bioactive compounds produced by many plant species. Nebuloside A was isolated from baby's-breath (Gypsophila arrostii) by high performance liquid chromatography method. Mass spectra obtained by electrospray ionizationtime of flight-mass spectrometry in a negative ion mode to reduce the protonation. Complete nuclear magnetic resonance spectrosc… Show more

“…Our findings as well as literature data allow us to suggest that constituents such as linalool, terpinen-4-ol, and 1,8-cineole, alongside oxygenated sesquiterpenes, might contribute to antimicrobial activity agree with earlier reports. [23,42,[43][44] Although these compounds are not abundant in essential oil, their activity is important. It is necessary to signal that other components can contribute to improve this activity.…”

“…exhibited genotoxic properties in a micronucleus assay [26]. DNA-damaging activity was also shown for nebuloside A isolated from Gypsophila arrostii [27]. Our data indicate that the CIL-1/2 fraction from L. ciliata (concentration up to 0.5 μg/mL) may be used as an adjuvant in MTX-based therapy of prostate cancer, and it does not increase the risk of genetic perturbations in normal cells.…”

“…We have previously reported that purification and structural elucidation of natural triterpenoidal saponins and their forceful activities, such as genotoxicological effects, enhance toxicity of type-I ribosome inactivating proteins (Arslan, 2014a(Arslan, , b, 2017Arslan et al 2012Arslan et al , 2013Arslan and Ili 2015).…”
