“…Strains in CC121 are globally distributed, causing infections both in humans and animals (Argudin et al, 2013;Gomez-Sanz et al, 2013;Merz et al, 2016;Doudoulakakis et al, 2017). Generally, strains in CC121 are MSSA (Kurt et al, 2013;Moreno-Grúa et al, 2018), although one report showed that MRSA had been found in CC121 (Kurt et al, 2013). With the rapid development of rabbit farming in Fujian Province in south-eastern China, operators should be alert to the prevalence of the ST121 strain in rabbit populations, which causes high mortality.…”

“…The S. aureus isolates used in this study originated from SFP outbreaks, asymptomatic nasal colonization or cases of infections in humans, as well as rabbit carcasses and bovine mastitis milk. Isolates were selected from a large collection of well-characterized S. aureus strains , for which DNA microarray enterotoxin hybridization patterns, spa types, and clonal complexes had been previously determined and published [ 14 , 28 , 29 , 30 , 31 ]. Detailed information on all S. aureus strains used in this study is provided in Table 1 .…”

“…CC97 isolates belonged to either spa-type t1190 or t2802. spa-type t1190 is a rabbit-specific strain since it has been previously found in rabbit meat [36,37] and lesions [38]. As for spa-type t2802, it has been reported mostly associated with bovine livestock but also with humans [39,40].…”
