Gentamicin sulfate distribution in body fluids

Abstract: Pharmacological studies were conducted on patients receiving gentamicin sulfate intravenously. The mean peak serum level was 4.5 P,g per milliliter after the administration of 40 mg. per square meter gentamicin sulfate. The serum half‐life was approximately 2 hours and the decrease was exponential. There was no evidence of drug accumulation when administered at a dose of 30 mg. per square meter every 6 hours over a 10 day period. The concentration of gentamicin in thoracic duct lymph paralleled the simultaneou… Show more

“…Patient 1-A developed a BUN of 26 mg/100 ml and creatinine of 1.4 mg/100 ml after 11 days VOL. 8,1975 therapy. Three days later his BUN increased to 38 mg/100 ml, but within the next 4 days it decreased to 20 mg/100 ml with a creatinine of 1.0 mg/100 ml.…”

“…Plasma protein binding is low, highly soluble in water, with distribution resembling extracellular fluid compartments [134,135]. Appropriate concentrations are attained in all body fluids except for CSF and vitreous humor [136][137][138]. They undergo renal clearance unchanged with minimal excretion via feces [139].…”
