Geochemical Approach for Seawater Intrusion Assessment in the Area around Yogyakarta International Airport, Indonesia

Abstract: A total of 10 groundwater samples were obtained from groundwater wells with depths of around 8-10 meters distributed around Yogyakarta International Airport, Indonesia to test the geochemical of groundwater for assessing the seawater intrusion. Samples were taken into polyethylene bottles with a volume of 1000 ml. These bottles were rinsed to reduce the risk of any contamination prior to their filing with sampled water. Piper Diagram is used to evaluate seawater intrusion by plotting the percentages of cations… Show more

“…It can be used for the calculation of the estimated dissolved solids concentration. The high EC value indicates an apparently high volume of dissolved ionized dissolved organic compounds in the water and salt enrichment [10,26]. The EC value was highest at Station 3 because its position is near the ocean.…”

“…As rightly stated in previous research, this rapid urbanization has the potential to engender environmental issues. This is evidenced by the fact that uncontrolled changes in land cover can impact environmental quality by influencing such factors as microclimate, land subsidence, and flood disasters, among other environmental concerns [Yang and Zeng, 2018;Majidi et al, 2019;Zamroni et al, 2021]. Therefore, it is essential to monitor the changes in land cover resulting from the impact of NYIA development as a means of regulating and ensuring environmental quality.…”
