Geochemical Aspects of a Geological Storage of CO<sub>2</sub>

Abstract: To evaluate the long-term behavior of a CO2 storage site, it is necessary to understand the geochemical reactions induced by CO2 injection into the water in an aquifer. We observed changes in the chemical composition of the formation water at the Nagaoka CO2 storage site, Japan, where a total of 10,400 tonnes of CO2 was injected into a 12-m-thick sandstone section of the Haizume Formation located at a depth of 1,100 m.
