Geochemical barriers as forms of geosystems’ self-organization

Show more

“…The data used present the PAH flows on 3 sampling stations: in the river zone, in the gravitational and physico-chemical zones of the marginal filter and in the sea zone [2]. The PAHs concentration coefficients CC were analyzed for the set of GCB in the studied aquatic system as the ratio of PAH in the "receiving" medium to the PAH in the releasing one [3]. We emphasize the role of dissolved organic matter in the formation of specific associations of PAHs.…”

“…When working with empirical material, for natural environments the transitions of associations of chemical elements and compounds are revealed, which are very far from the theoretical concepts of classical thermodynamics about minimizing energy [3,5]. Obviously, fractionation of PAHs will most contrastly occur during transitions between interconnected system components.…”

“…Their concentration coefficients CC were analyzed for cases of the transition through GCB (ratio of PAH in the "receiving" medium to the PAH in the releasing one). For all studied media, the most probable sources (pyrogenic, petrogenic) of the pollution were identified using traditional indicator ratios [1,4,5].…”

“…However, many previous studies have potentially assumed that the geochemical background varies continuously across space. This assumption may be inappropriate in scenarios where singularity can occur, for example, due to the presence of geochemical barriers (e.g., Perel'man, 1986; Khaustov, 2017), thereby introducing additional uncertainty.…”
