“…The abundance of C 30 early-eluting rearranged hopane shows a strong linear correlation with that of C 30 17α(H)diahopane. 5,10,26 Likewise, all the relative abundance parameters (C 29 D/C 30 H, C 30 D/C 30 H, C 29 E/C 30 H, C 30 E/C 30 H) in the study area show similar tendencies in relation to burial depth (Figure 5). This observation suggests that the early-eluting rearranged hopanes may have biological precursors similar to those of 17α(H)-diahopanes.…”

“…Clay-mediated acidic catalysis may be another key factor affecting the generation of rearranged hopanes in the study area. Confusingly, the abundances of rearranged hopanes in source rocks from many other basins are much lower than in those of the Sichuan Basin, even in basins with similar depositional environments and maturation levels. Perhaps a bloom of aquatic life, or some other biological group, in the early Jurassic in the study area had some influence on the enrichment of diahopanes . Although the mechanism causing such a high abundance of rearranged hopanes remains unclear, the study of the geochemical characteristics of rearranged hopanes may have significant implications for oil-source correlation in the study area.…”

“…Later, Philp and Gilbert also found C 30 * in many terrestrial facies, such as those in the Gippsland Basin, Sydney Basin, Cooper/Eromanga Basin and Surat/Bowen Basin 44 . High concentrations of rearranged hopanes were also reported in terrestrial lacustrine sediments in the Songliao Basin and Ordos Basin 18 , 64 . These compounds coexist with high concentrations of C 24 Tet and 18α(H)-oleanane, which have been discovered in Tertiary terrestrial crude oil and are consistent with the presence of angiosperms.…”

“…Scrutinizing the literature review (Appendix A) indicated optimal GC parameters for injection, column, and oven temperature programming. Thus, according to the data (Appendix A), splitless injections (1 µL) at 240 • C, 280 • C, and 290 • C, are commonly used by several scientists [32,33,42,48,50]. Further, it not surprisingly appeared that the choice of column apparently is a crucial parameter (for details vide supra).…”
