“…The zircon U–Pb age geochronology is useful for tracing sediment provenance and to better understand the sediment‐transport pathways (Albardeiro et al, ; Cao et al, ; Cao, Shao, Qiao, Chen, & Wu, ; Garzanti et al, ; Morton, Hallsworth, Strogen, Whitham, & Fanning, ; Rubatto, ; Terentiev & Santosh, ; Vermeesch, , ; Zhang et al, ). The U–Pb ages of detrital zircons were utilized by various authors to investigate the sediment provenance, tectonic evolution, and continental crust growth history in different parts of the world (Ali, ; Etemad‐Saeed et al, ; Mohammad & Qaradaghi, ; Nakhaei et al, ; Philander & Rozendaal, ; Wang et al, ; Xu, Wang, & Zhao, ; Yang & Chen, ; Yang, Zhang, & Wang, ; Zhong, Zhai, Peng, Santosh, & Ma, ). Although, detrital geochronology studies are common, reviews by Malusa, Carter, Limoncelli, Villa, and Garzanti () and Malusà, Resentini, and Garzanti () documented that the interpretations based on single mineral analysis should consider the effect induced by hydraulic sorting and mineral fertility bias because they identified its impact on estimated sediment budgets and erosion patterns.…”
