ABSTRACT:The Brasília Belt is one of the most complete Neoproterozoic orogens in western Gondwana. Rapid progress on the understanding of the tectonic evolution of the belt was achieved due to new U-Pb data, combined with Sm-Nd and Lu-Hf analyses. The evolution of the Brasília orogen happened over a long period of time (900 -600 Ma) involving subduction, magmatism and terrain accretion, as a result of the consumption of the Goiás oceanic lithosphere. Provenance studies, based on U-Pb zircon data, indicate that the sedimentary rock units record different tectonic settings and stages of the evolution of the orogen. The Paranoá and Canastra groups represent passive margin sequences derived from the erosion of the São Francisco Craton. The Araxá and Ibiá groups, however, have dominant Neoproterozoic detrital zircon populations, as young as 650 Ma, suggesting derivation from the Goiás Magmatic Arc. The Goiás Magmatic Arc represents a composite arc terrain, formed by the accretion of older (ca. 0.9 -0.8 Ga) intraoceanic island arc(s), followed by more evolved continental arcs. It extends for several thousand kilometers, from SW Goiás, through NE Brazil and into Africa. Metamorphism took place between 650 -630 Ma reflecting final closure of the Goiás Ocean and continental collision. KEYWORDS: Brasília Belt; Neoproterozoic; U-Pb geochronology; Sediment provenance. RESUMO: A Faixa Brasília é um dos mais completos orógenos Neoproterozoicos no Gondwana Ocidental. Durante os últimos dez anos, o rápido progresso no entendimento da evolução tectônica desse orógeno foi proporcionado pela produção de novos dados geocronológicos U-Pb SHRIMP e LA-ICPMS, combinados com análises Sm-Nd e Lu-Hf. Os dados demonstraram que a evolução da Faixa Brasília acontenceu ao longo de um prolongado intervalo de tempo (900 -600 Ma), envolvendo subducção, atividade ígnea e acreção de terrenos, como resultado do consumo da litosfera do oceano Goiás. Zinc isotopes ratios provide qualitative and quantitative information about contributions from different Zn sources in the environment. Here we present the results of a preliminary study to identify the main sources controlling Zn isotope signatures of sediments from Lake Paranoá (Brazil), an urban water reservoir. The Zn isotope ratios were measured by MC-ICP-MS and expressed as δ66/64Zn notation relative to the JMC 3-0749-L solution. The studied sediments showed a narrow isotopic range (+0.00 to +0.13 ‰; n = 10) similar to that reported for intensely weathered soils worldwide (from -0.4 to +0.2‰). The geoaccumulation index (Igeo) also suggests low or negligible influence of Zn anthropogenic source. This research provides a baseline assessment of the Zn isotopes signatures in lake sedimentary environments under the influence of these weathered soils.

Disponível on-line no endereço www.igc.usp.br/geologiausp -171 -Resumo Este estudo buscou contribuir com informações sedimentométricas sobre o Córrego Riacho Fundo (CRF), afluente do Lago Paranoá, Brasília, Distrito Federal, historicamente o principal transportador de sedimentos da bacia. Utilizamos mé-todo acústico com o equipamento River Surveyour M9 da Sontek, para levantamento de vazão, e amostrador automático ISCO 6712, para amostragem de água e sedimentos, com coleta em ponto fixo em relação ao leito do córrego e coleta com adaptação para amostragem a 40 cm de profundidade da superfície d'água. A mineralogia de uma seleção de amostras de sedimentos coletados foi determinada por difratometria de raios X. Além disso, a turbidez das águas foi medida por meio de sonda multiparamétrica flutuando a 40 cm da superfície. Os resultados obtidos permitiram elaborar uma nova curva-chave do CRF, com vazões medidas em cotas nunca registradas. O novo método de coleta implantado possibilitou obter informações em cotas que não haviam sido amostradas antes e permitiu também diminuir a dispersão dos dados entre concentração e cota. Assim, comparando os dois métodos, com o método fixo obteve-se R 2 = 0,28, e com o método com flutuabilidade, R 2 = 0,45. A adaptação com flutuação também favoreceu uma boa correlação entre turbidez e concentração, apresentando R 2 = 0,92. A análise de histerese mostrou que a maioria dos eventos ocorre no sentido anti-horário. A quantidade total de sedimentos suspensos por evento de chuva variou entre 43 e 1.258 t com o método adaptado, e entre 47 e 10.142 t com o método de coleta fixa. A mineralogia dos sedimentos é composta por saponita, vermiculita, ilita, muscovita, caolinita, gibbsita, diásporo, quartzo, rutilo e hematita. O uso do amostrador automático permitiu identificar maior número de minerais quando comparados outros estudos na região.Palavras-chave: Sedimentometria; Amostrador automático; Turbidez; Mineralogia. AbstractThis work aimed to contribute in the sedimentometric study of the Riacho Fundo stream, affluent of Lake Paranoá, Brasília, Federal District, and historically the main sediments exporter for the entire basin. For this purpose, the flow was measured by the acoustic method with the Sontek River Surveyour M9 equipment and an automatic sampler ISCO 6712 was used for water and sediment sampling, with collection at a fixed point and varying according to the height, in a water depth of 40 cm. The mineralogy of chosen sediment samples was assessed by X-ray diffraction. Also, simultaneous monitoring of the turbidity was carried out, with a floating multiparameter probe, likewise. The results are useful data for the location, since there is lack of data for reservoir sedimentation planning. Furthermore, the improved sampling method (floating probe) showed a better coefficient of determination (R 2 = 0,45) than the fixed sampling method (R 2 = 0,28). Thus, a good correlation could be reached between turbidity and concentration (R 2 = 0.92). Hysteresis was generally counterclockwise....
