Geology and Genesis of the Tanco Isolated Hill on the Kerinci Lake, Jambi

Abstract: Kerinci area is a small part of the Barisan Range where the Magmatic Arc Zones and a valley extending from the northwest to the southeast flanked by hills with steep slopes on both of sides that flank it. Isolated hill which is on the Kerinci Lake is the main focus to be studied because its existence is located in the middle of a part of the depression Kerinci Lake. In additions, in the vacinity of the research site there has never been research conducted both of in general and specifically. The research was c… Show more

“…The Sumatra Island is divided into six physiographic zones: Barisan Range Zone, Low Hills, Wavy Plain Zone, Tigapuluh Mountains Zone, Outer Arc Zone, and Sunda Shelf Zone (Bemmelen, 1949;Zahirovic, 2016;Nabella et al, 2019;. Kerinci Regency is part of Barisan Range Zone associated with Sumatran Fault System Physiography (Figure 2) which can be divided into the Quaternary Volcanic Zone, Basin Intra Mountain Zone, and Barisan Mountain.…”

“…Drainage pattern is important information regarding the characteristics of the rocks and morphology formed, generally in volcanic areas characterized by radial pattern (Utama, 2020;Zahirovic et al, 2019;Mulyasari et al, 2019). This radial pattern can change to radial-centrifugal or radial-centripetal for volcanoes that have been eroded or deformed to form a caldera, but in areas of volcanoes that have been deformed by tectonics they can form rectangular, annular, and parallel pattern (Kale, 2014;Utama, 2023;Nabella et al, 2019;Syaifullah and Utama, 2021). In addition to taking several selected rock samples, field investigations also carried out stratigraphic profiles measured on rock layers from ancient volcanoes.…”

“…This geotourism development can later be used as a natural laboratory that provides education about the unique geological heritage. The potential of geotourism as a conservation effort should be able to be increased to become one of the leading geotourism in BDNP which in time will role as an geopark (Utami et al, 2013;Mulyasari et al, 2019;Nabella et al, 2019). This research applies geological complexity as a form of assessment of geological potential locations that have an impact on geological heritage conservation in the BDNPTerritory, Jambi Province.…”
