Geology and petrography of the rocks around Gulani Area, Northeastern Nigeria

Abstract: Geological mapping of the Gulani area revealed that the area consists of Precambrian Basement Complex rocks, Cretaceous sediments and the Tertiary/Quaternary basalts of the Biu plateau. The Basement Complex rocks are represented by diorite and granites while the sediments include the Bima, Yolde, and Pindiga Formations. Epigenetic baryte-copper mineralizations occur with the baryte veins restricted to the Bima and Yolde sandstones while the Copper mineralizations occur in granites. Petrographic study indicates… Show more

“…1). It occur in form of domeshaped plug consisting of basaltic flows deposited around the volcanoes in which the basalts have been fragmented to small sized fragments scattered all over the place (Plate 7a) which is closely related to those of Gulani area (El-Nafaty, 2015). It is dark melanocratic, very fine-grained, massive and dense but sometimes vessiculated (Plate 7b).…”

“…The Northeastern Nigeria (where the study area is located) comprises of three petrolithological components which include: the Precambrian Basement Complex rocks, the Cretaceous sedimentary rocks and the Tertiary-Quaternary volcanic rocks. Published work in the sector centred on petrology (Islam, 1989); petrogenesis (Baba et al, 2006;Haruna, et al, 2011;Joseph, 2016); Mineralization (Islam and Baba, 1990;Baba et al, 1991;Funtua et al, 1999;Mohammed, 2005;Abaa and Najime, 2006;Dada and Suh, 2006;Joseph et al, 2008;El-Nafaty, 2015;Kamale, 2018). The geological features which characterized the area were shown by the relief of the area having heights that ranged from 250 -730m above mean sea level (Fig.…”
