Geometría del basamento y espesores sedimentarios del lago Fagnano (Tierra del Fuego).

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Lago Fagnano, an E-W elongated basin located in the central part of Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego, occupies a structural depression originated along a segment of the Magallanes-Fagnano fault system. Its evolution was mostly conditioned by tectonic processes, and later was affected by glacial and glacio-lacustrine depositional events. New high-resolution single-channel seismic data, integrated with previous seismic profiles, and geological information acquired in the surroundings of the Lago Fagnano… Show more

“…The result of this procedure was the compilation of two-way traveltime (TWT) grids with 0.001°spacing for: (i) the top of the acoustic basement, (ii) the top of the glacier unit: and (iii) the thickness of the glacio-lacustrine sequence. An analogous methodology was applied in the lakes of Tierra del Fuego, like Lago Fagnano (Esteban et al, 2014), Lago Yehuin (Lozano et al, 2018a), Lago Chepelmut (Lozano et al, 2018b) and Lago Roca (Bran et al, 2019).…”

“…The minimum floor altitude (Alt min ), maximum headwall altitude (Alt max ) and mean altitude (Alt mean ) of each cirque were automatically derived from the DEM. Finally, bedrock lithology (based on Martinioni, 2001, andMalumián, 2008) and main structures (after Menichetti et al, 2008;Esteban et al, 2014;Torres-Carbonell et al, 2014, andBran et al, 2018) were recorded in order to analyse their effect on cirque size and morphology (Fig. 2).…”

“…Esteban et al. (2014) analyzed bathymetric and seismic data available in the lake and confirm that it is composed of 4 amalgamated pull‐apart sub‐basins. In contrast, between the eastern edge of Lago Fagnano and the Atlantic coast, there is no evidence of major active pull‐apart basin except perhaps the very small Udaeta Lake pull‐apart (Onorato et al., 2017).…”
