Abstract:We examine data-processing of Markov chains through the lens of information geometry. We first establish a theory of congruent Markov morphisms within the framework of stochastic matrices. Specifically, we introduce and justify the concept of a linear right inverse (congruent embedding) for lumping, a well-known operation used in Markov chains to extract coarse information. Furthermore, we inspect information projections onto geodesically convex sets of stochastic matrices, and show that under some conditions,… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
