George Soulié de Morant

Abstract: George Soulié de Morant was consul in China, an expert of China, and later an acupuncturist. He was indeed the first in Europe to build a theoretical discourse, to make reference to Chinese medical texts, but also, to practice acupuncture. The life and work of George Soulié de Morant, eclectic and nonconformist, show how formal and institutional recognition do not always correspond to the social recognition of the value of expertise.
