Geothermal heat potential - the source for heating greenhouses in Southestern Europe

Abstract: The paper presents economically evaluated solutions for heating greenhouses with geothermal potential, if the same greenhouse is placed in two different locations in Southeastern Europe, one in Slovenia and the other in Serbia. The direct geothermal water exploitation using heat exchangers is presented and the remaining heat potential of already used geothermal water is exploited using high temperature heat pumps. Energy demands for heating greenhouses are calculated considering climatic parameters of both loc… Show more

“…Smart building strategy is also a widespread topic for improving the energy performance, environmental awareness, and occupant comfort in buildings [19][20][21][22][23]. Energy performance strategies and various HVAC systems were analyzed in our previous research [24,25]. The research evaluates the overall energy performance and operational costs of a 45,171 m2 gross floor area commercial office building of the modern Innovation Campus in Budapest, developed by Wing Ltd. [26] The whole design and the construction process of the building was aided and followed by dynamic simulation of the complex to optimize its performance and overall energy consumption.…”

“…Smart building strategy is also a widespread topic for improving the energy performance, environmental awareness and occupant comfort in buildings [25][26][27][28][29]. Energy utilization from various sources such as geothermal heat energy and different mechanical systems were analysed in our previous researches [30,31]. Hungary has numerous examples of Green certified buildings [32], but an overall analysis of building performance metrics does not exist among Green certified and nearly zero energy buildings.…”

“…The main objective of this study is to develop an innovative solution for the exploitation of excess low-temperature heat sources of hot water boilers, which are discharged with exhaust gases into the environment. The heat that would be produced with one or more cascaded high-temperature heat pumps [14,15], by exploiting low-temperature heat sources of hot water boilers, would be used for preheating the return water of the high-temperature heating system in industry or district heating systems.…”
