“…By contrast, limestones within the IYSZ and adjoining Gangdese arc evidently continued to experience alteration in the presence of some combination of higher temperatures and meteoric waters with variable d 18 O values. Alteration in this setting is unsurprising given the high geothermal gradients (Francheteau et al, 1984), hydrothermal alteration and abundant modern hot spring activity (Ji-Yang et al, 1981), and deep burial and ongoing deformation (Laskowski et al, 2018) 12, 13).…”

“…No thermochronologic data have been generated from 1LQ, but AFT and AHe data from 6LQ and 7LQ ~40 km west along strike suggest cooling from >80°C after 10-12 Ma (Li et al, 2015). Heat flow values of 88-242 mW m -2 ~150 km to the east of 1LQ (Francheteau et al, 1984), rapid cooling at 10 Ma and estimated paleogeothermal gradients as high as 400°C/km ~200 km west of 1LQ (Mahéo et al, 2007), and abundant hot springs along the India-Asia suture zone (Ji-Yang et al, 1981) all suggest the possibility of high temperatures and/or high-temperature fluid interactions at modest burial depths. The challenge in this scenario comes in explaining the low T(47) and d 18 Opc values from section 1LQ.…”

“…Oxygen and hydrogen isotope analyses were performed in the Water Isotope and Water-Rock Interaction Laboratory at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, using a laser absorption water isotope spectrometer analyzer (L1102-I, Picarro) which used wavelength scanning optical cavity ring-down spectroscopy (WS-CRDS) technology. Analysis of δ 18 O and δD used the Vienna Standard Mean Ocean Water (V-SMOW) as the standard. The analytical precision of δ 18 O and δD measurements was ±0.1‰ and ±0.5‰, respectively [37].…”

“…The study of geothermal fluids can increase the understanding of the geological significance of geothermal genesis, reservoir temperature, heating mechanism, circulation depth, and supply source [15][16][17][18] and can also act as a basis for exploring mantle-derived material and the shallow response resulting from the geodynamic process of plate subduction. The isotopic composition of gas is widely used to study deep structural changes and the transport mechanism in cratons (e.g., [19][20][21][22][23][24]).…”
