Gerontology and Geriatrics in Medical Education

Abstract: The elderly are receiving more attention because of their increasing numbers and because of the substantial public funding for their health and welfare. This article summarizes the findings of an Institute of Medicine committee, whose recently completed report concludes that gerontology (study of aging) and geriatrics (care of the aged) are not covered adequately in medical education.
