“…Interestingly, instead of enhancing the sharpness of the interfaces, PLD has also been used to boost the columnar growth of permalloy (Py)/Ag multilayers for GMR application [107]. In this case, the GMR effect of the Py/Ag multilayers is promoted by the static antiferromagnetic ordering due to the presence of Py islands in the matrix of Ag [108,109].…”

“…In as-prepared laser-deposited Ni 80 Fe 20 /Ag (Permalloy/Ag) multilayers a GMR value of 3.5% in low fields of about 0.001 Tesla was observed at room temperature by Faupel et al [2002], as depicted in Figure 16.13. Strong columnar growth in combination with preferential sputtering of Ag from the film surface during deposition of the Ni 80 Fe 20 layer helps to directly create a discontinuous multilayer structure necessary for high GMR values without postannealing.…”

“…HRTEM investigations were performed on Ni/C multilayers to determine the interface roughness [Dietsch et al, 1998]. Also X-ray reflectivity measurements in the Permalloy/Ag, Cu/Ag, Fe/Ag, Fe/MgO, Ti/MgO, and Permalloy/MgO systems were analyzed in detail by structural simulations including surface and interface roughnesses [Faupel et al, 2002;Fuhse et al, 2004]. All these experiments indicate a typical interface roughness of only about one or two monolayers, depending only slightly on the number of deposited bilayers.…”

“…Auch bei Magnetowiderstandssystemen (MR, GMR, TMR) hängt die Streuung der Elektronen stark von der Grenzflächenbeschaffenheit ab. Eine gezielte Einstellung der Rauigkeit kann dabei zu einer Zunahme des GMR-Effekts führen[Full92,Faup02].…”
