Giant Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons

Abstract: Oxidative cyclodehydrogenation under Kovacic conditions has gained new importance for the synthesis of extremely large polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in almost quantitative yield. Suitable oligophenylenes can be cyclodehydrogenated to yield planar PAHs containing up to 136 carbon atoms with well-defined size and shape.
