Giant Star‐Shaped Nitrogen‐Doped Nanographenes

Abstract: Star‐shaped nanographenes (SNGs) are large monodisperse polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons that are larger than a nanometer and have shown a lot of promise in a wide range of applications including electronics, energy conversion, and sensing. Herein, we report a new family of giant star‐shaped N‐doped nanographenes with diameters up to 6.5 nm. Furthermore, the high solubility of this SNG family in neutral organic solvents at room temperature allowed a complete structural, optoelectronic, and electrochemical char… Show more

“…A pseudoconductivity value φΣµ = 2.40 x 10 -4 cm 2 V -1 s -1 was estimated for the (Ac-A-Ac)n polymer from the resultant rise and decay profiles of transient conductivities (Figure 4A). These ϕΣμ values are in line with other conducting materials such as nanographenes, [22][23] stacked pseudorotaxanes, [24] peropyrene fibers, [25][26] and conjugated polymers. [27] To provide a picture of the electronic structure of Ac-A-Ac, theoretical calculations were carried out.…”

“…TBTQ QPP 16 has two degenerated HOMOs ( E HOMO = −6.10 eV) which are comparable in energy to the HOMO and the two HOMO−1’s of the three‐blades TBTQ‐TQPP 9 ( E HOMO = −6.07 eV, E HOMO−1 = −6.07 eV). The twofold degeneration is typical for molecules of C 3 symmetry [8, 26, 34c, 36] . The atom orbital coefficients of these orbitals of 16 show no contributions delocalized at the TBTQ core.…”

“…While there are examples for triptycene‐based PFPs, [19, 25] planar, star shaped PFPs [26] or phenylene bridged PFP dimers, [27] no TBTQ based analogue has been realized so far.…”
