Ginkgo Biloba Ameliorates Subfertility Induced by Testicular Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury in Adult Wistar Rats: A Possible New Mitochondrial Mechanism

Abstract: Testicular torsion, a surgical emergency, could affect the endocrine and exocrine testicular functions. This study demonstrates histopathological and physiological effects of testicular ischemia/perfusion (I/R) injury and the possible protective effects of Ginkgo biloba treatment. Fifty adult male Wistar rats, 180–200 gm, were randomly divided into sham-operated, Gingko biloba supplemented, ischemia only, I/R, and Gingko biloba treated I/R groups. Overnight fasted rats were anaesthetized by Pentobarbital; I/R … Show more

“…In agreement with the present study, several previous reports (Ahmed, Lasheen, & El-Zawahry, 2016;Arabaci Tamer et al, 2018;Zheng, Shao, Wu, Shen, & Lin, 2018) reported similar findings regarding the ability of testicular IR to increase the proinflammatory cytokines TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6 suggesting a role for these cytokines in the IR testicular injury. The current results showed that paeonol exerted anti-inflammatory effects on IR testes by downregulating TNF-α gene expression as well as IL-1β and IL-6 protein expression.…”

“…The plasma testosterone levels were measured as described in previous studies using testosterone ELISA kits (Abcam, Inc., Cambridge, UK) for rats according to the manufacturer’s instructions [ 3 , 24 , 25 ]. The assay is based on competitive ELISA where testosterone in the sample competes with the added testosterone-horseradish peroxidase (HRP) for antibody binding.…”

“…The results suggest that EGB761 can be a protective and therapeutic agent against the male reproductive toxicity induced through electromagnetic radiation and through aluminum, besides lessening the alterations caused by ischemia in the testicular tissue, helping to treat the infertility in such cases. [28,67,68] Colorectal cancer The results showed that EGB761 has antitumor activity, and it can help to prevent the progression of the colorectal cancer.…”
