Glancing back -looking forwardThe foundation and roots of JDMS began in 2010 when I found myself in hospital pregnant with my second child and suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum. It was a very peculiar contradictory sensation and experience -on the one hand, feeling a new life forming and unfolding, yet so terribly ill I could hardly eat or drink for nine months. Often doubled-up in pain, hooked up to a drip, twenty minutes grace would follow after taking each anti-sickness pill, and it was during these short moments of equanimity that I filled in the editors' proposal form. I was on sick leave for months. Working to the demands of HE, I was usually insanely busy leading an M.A. programme, and yet all I could do during this sickly period was sit still and quietly (no fast movement, no speedy ups and downs) and read. I am reflecting now that this journal was born out of stillness -a stilling, perhaps a distilling of ideas, rising out in solitude.
