Glass formation and properties of sodium zinc phosphate glasses doped with ferric oxide

Abstract: Approximate glass-forming region of a P 2 O 5 -ZnO-Na 2 O (PZN) ternary system was investigated and determined. The properties of the glasses with ZnO contents between 35 and 50 mol-% were further investigated. When ZnO of 40P 2 O 5 -40ZnO-20Na 2 O glasses is replaced by 1-5 mol-% Fe 2 O 3 , respectively, the density, T g and T f increase first and then decrease, and they showed the maximum value of about 4 mol-% Fe 2 O 3 replacement, while CTE and weight loss vary in opposite ways and showed the minimum value… Show more

“…The band at around 1340 cm −1 is assigned to the symmetric stretching of the (P = O) bond in Q 3 groups [ 37 , 38 ]. Another feature that arises at 1265 cm −1 is attributed to the asymmetric stretching of (O-P-O) in the Q 2 groups, νas(PO 2 − ) [ 39 ].…”

“…Variations in glass density could illustrate the degree of structural compactness of the glass network. However, in this work, these changes were small and not likely to be significant because most of the microelements incorporated are glass modifiers (expect B 2 O 3 ), principally placed in the holes in the vitreous network [ 38 ].…”

“…The band at 690 cm −1 is attributed to the symmetric stretching mode of the P–O–P in Q 2 groups. Bands between 290 and 390 cm −1 could be related, respectively, to bending vibrations of PO 2 − and PO 3 2− [ 38 , 39 , 41 , 42 , 43 ].…”

“…The two peaks between 900 and 700 cm −1 were assigned, respectively, to asymmetric and symmetric stretching of the bridging oxygen atoms bonded to a phosphorus atom in a Q 2 phosphate tetrahedron. The bending vibrations of phosphate polyhedral δ(PO 2 − ) and δ(PO 3 2− ) resulted in the range between 400 and 600 cm −1 [22,33,34]. In analogy to their Raman counterparts, the substitution of CaO by MgO caused a shift towards the high frequencies of the FTIR bands.…”
