Global monitoring data shows grain size controls turbidity current structure

Abstract:  Turbidity currents have two end-member structures that depend mainly on grain size. Short-lived sandy flows last for minutes to hours and velocity decays exponentially over time. Muddy flows can be far more prolonged and develop near-constant velocity for days.
