“…For example, a new emerging issue is that of sustainable and healthy diets, capable to contribute to the reduction in the overall impact of food systems and guarantee food security and nutrition [61][62][63][64]. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) [65], in fact, affirms that policies that operate across the food system, including those that reduce food loss and waste and influence dietary choices, enable more sustainable land-use management, enhanced food security and low emissions trajectories.…”

“…Food systems analysis has undergone important changes over the last few decades. Three different strands and related narratives can be distinguished: (a) descriptive analysis of the structure of food systems with emphasis on the identification of key components [11][12][13]; (b) explorative analysis of different policy options and opportunities for improving food systems performance [14][15][16][17], and (c) interactive analysis of food system transitions and adaptive innovation strategies for creating synergies and coherence between key agents [18][19][20]. While there is still limited communication between these narratives-also related to the different academic disciplines underlying each of them (i.e., agro-ecology, economics, nutrition and sociology)-it is urgently needed to reinforce our understanding of feasible and effective strategies for supporting transitions towards healthier and sustainable diets [21,22].…”

“…The UNICEF conceptual framework linking nutritional status to immediate drivers (i.e. diets and diseases) and the framework of the Global Panel on Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition (GLOPAN) that links diet quality to food systems are used to frame this review of the evidence (Scott 2017;UNICEF 1990).…”
