Global publication trends and research hotspots of curcumin application in tumor: A 20-year bibliometric approach

Abstract: Malignant tumor is a disease caused by the imbalance of cell growth and proliferation mechanism, which seriously threatens human health and life safety. However, side effects and drug resistance are the key factors that limit the efficacy of anti-tumor drugs. Therefore, it is urgent and necessary to explore and unearth natural, safe and effective chemosensitizers in tumor researches. Curcumin is the main active ingredient in Curcuma, which has anti-inflammatory, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidation effects, an… Show more

“…Curcumin has been demonstrated to increase the responsiveness of cancer cells to chemotherapy, making it a beneficial component in liposome formulations [ 71 ]. This novel approach has been utilized in the management of several forms of cancer, such as breast, ovarian, and lung malignancies, providing a promising solution for patients in search of more efficient and less harmful treatment alternatives [ 64 ]. These liposome formulations have potential applications beyond cancer therapy, demonstrating the adaptability of combining standard chemotherapeutic drugs with natural chemicals in sophisticated drug delivery systems for treating many disorders.…”

“…Other reliable methods to enhance the bioavailability of curcumin in humans comprise the use of liposomes (Gota et al, 2010) structural analogs (Anand et al, 2007) and phospholipid complexes (Cuomo et al, 2011), and so forth. The nontoxicity and safety of high dose of curcumin has been confirmed by several human trials in the past few years (Baum et al, 2008; DiSilvestro et al, 2012; Ringman et al, 2012; Zhang et al, 2022). Moreover, curcumin has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as “Generally Recognized as Safe” (Anand et al, 2007), and good safety and tolerability profiles of curcumin have been shown by clinical trials even at doses between 4000 and 8000 mg/day without imparting any toxic effects in patients (Ringman et al, 2012; Tak et al, 2022).…”
