Environmental concerns play a crucial role in sustainability and public opinion on supply chains. This is why, how, and to what extent the firms experience environmental-related actions and inform their stakeholders, which is under discussion by most researchers. This paper aims to leverage data mining and its capabilities by applying association rule mining to the environmental disclosure context. With the aim of extracting hidden relationships between environmental disclosure themes for BIST 100 firms serving the Turkish supply chain, this research implements a novel association rule mining approach and uses the Apriori algorithm. With this purpose, the environmental information of BIST 100 firms was collected manually from sustainability reports; the raw data were processed; and the following seven themes identified the representing firms’ disclosure items: environmental management, climate change, energy management, emissions management, water management, waste management, and biodiversity management. The results indicate various hidden relations between the sector and disclosures, allowing us to generate sector-based rules between environmental disclosure themes.

Data-Driven Technology Roadmaps to Identify Potential Technology Opportunities for Hyperuricemia Drugs

Hyperuricemia is a metabolic disease with an increasing incidence in recent years. It is critical to identify potential technology opportunities for hyperuricemia drugs to assist drug innovation. A technology roadmap (TRM) can efficiently integrate data analysis tools to track recent technology trends and identify potential technology opportunities. Therefore, this paper proposes a systematic data-driven TRM approach to identify potential technology opportunities for hyperuricemia drugs. This data-driven TRM includes the following three aspects: layer mapping, content mapping and opportunity finding. First we deal with layer mapping.. The BERT model is used to map the collected literature, patents and commercial hyperuricemia drugs data into the technology layer and market layer in TRM. The SAO model is then used to analyze the semantics of technology and market layer for hyperuricemia drugs. We then deal with content mapping. The BTM model is used to identify the core SAO component topics of hyperuricemia in technology and market dimensions. Finally, we consider opportunity finding. The link prediction model is used to identify potential technological opportunities for hyperuricemia drugs. This data-driven TRM effectively identifies potential technology opportunities for hyperuricemia drugs and suggests pathways to realize these opportunities. The results indicate that resurrecting the pseudogene of human uric acid oxidase and reducing the toxicity of small molecule drugs will be potential opportunities for hyperuricemia drugs. Based on the identified potential opportunities, comparing the DNA sequences from different sources and discovering the critical amino acid site that affects enzyme activity will be helpful in realizing these opportunities. Therefore, this research provides an attractive option analysis technology opportunity for hyperuricemia drugs.

PurposeThe calculation of buildings’ carbon footprint (CFP) is an important basis for formulating energy-saving and emission-reduction plans for building. As an important building type, there is currently no model that considers the time factor to accurately calculate the CFP of hospital building throughout their life cycle. This paper aims to establish a CFP calculation model that covers the life cycle of hospital building and considers time factor.Design/methodology/approachOn the basis of field and literature research, the basic framework is built using dynamic life cycle assessment (DLCA), and the gray prediction model is used to predict the future value. Finally, a CFP model covering the whole life cycle has been constructed and applied to a hospital building in China.FindingsThe results applied to the case show that the CO2 emission in the operation stage of the hospital building is much higher than that in other stages, and the total CO2 emission in the dynamic and static analysis operation stage accounts for 83.66% and 79.03%, respectively; the difference of annual average emission of CO2 reached 28.33%. The research results show that DLCA is more accurate than traditional static life cycle assessment (LCA) when measuring long-term objects such as carbon emissions in the whole life cycle of hospital building.Originality/valueThis research established a carbon emission calculation model that covers the life cycle of hospital building and considered time factor, which enriches the research on carbon emission of hospital building, a special and extensive public building, and dynamically quantifies the resource consumption of hospital building in the life cycle. This paper provided a certain reference for the green design, energy saving, emission reduction and efficient use of hospital building, obviously, the limitation is that this model is only applicable to hospital building.
