Glomalin amount and compositional variation, and their associations with soil properties in farmland, northeastern China

Abstract: Glomalin‐related soil protein (GRSP) is well‐known for its soil conditioning functions, but compositional traits are rarely considered. Farmland in northeastern China is the most important commercial grain basis, and soil degradation becomes the bottleneck for keeping crop productivity. The objective of this study was to uncover the possible associations between GRSP (amount and composition) and soil properties, and make suggestions for soil improvement from soil glomalin rehabilitation in northeastern China. … Show more

“…Other nutrients, viz., C, Ca, Cu, Mn, Zn, and Fe, displayed higher concentrations in purified DE-GRSP than in purified EE-GRSP. The variation in element contents of two GRSP fractions constituted different organic substances (e.g., tyrosine, tryptophan, fulvic acid, humic acid, nitrobenzoxadiazole, and calcofluor) (Zhang et al, 2017b ), thus presenting such contrasting growth responses.…”

“…together by relatively persistent binding agents, such as aromatic humic material, in association with amorphous Fe and Al compounds, polyvalent metal cations (Tisdall & Oades, 1982) and glomalin-related soil protein, a by-product of fungal metabolism Wang, Zhang, Zhou, He, & Wang, 2020;Zhong et al, 2017). Land-use changes have resulted in C, N, P alternations during disaggregation-aggregation processes (Wei, Shao, Gale, & Li, 2014;Wei, Shao, Gale, Zhang, & Li, 2013).…”

“…There are approximately 6.67 million ha of poplar plantations that are widely distributed in China. The large shelterbelt forest area in China makes it a good example for studying the ecological functions of shelterbelt forests, and underground soil changes are an important issue to fully understand the functions of forests (Zhu, 2013;Wang et al, , 2017bWu and Wang, 2016;Wang Q. et al, 2017;Zhong et al, 2017;Nan et al, 2018).…”
