Glow discharge polymerization of reactive functional silanes on poly(methyl methacrylate)

Abstract: SynopsisGlow discharge polymerization among such reactive functional silanes as 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MSL), 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (ESL), and vinyltrimethoxysilane (VSL) on poly (methyl methacrylate) was investigated by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, ESCA analysis, and contact angle measurement. Flow rate of monomer influenced both polymer deposition rate and polymer elemental composition. Infrared spectra showed differences in chemical structure among the polymers… Show more

“…The decrease in water CA in [1] was caused by thermooxidation of initially hydrophobic methyl-terminated surface of EPDM. This process was accompanied by an arrangement of polar oxygen functional groups (-C-OH, -C=O) on the outer surface layer [1,2]. In case of frictional surfaces, no oxidation of the elastomer backbone could be found from XPS spectra.…”

“…Properties of elastomer surfaces depend, to a large degree, on the chemical constitution of molecules in the surface layer [2]. Therefore, tailoring polymer surfaces has attracted much interest of researchers in polymer chemistry [3].…”

“…Herein the sol-gel method allows diffusion limitations to be avoided, inevitable, when bulky dendrimer or dendron is anchored to the surface of ready carrier [64][65][66][67][68][69]. The materials obtained were characterized by infrared spectroscopy (IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, that confirmed the presence in their structures of fragments, inherent in the SiO 2 bulk support [74,75] [76][77][78][79][80].…”
