The resulting increase in insulin levels was lower with a slower increase in glucose levels, particularly notable during the glucose ramp when beta cells responded very slowly and no clear first phase but only a gradual second phase was evident [ 27 ]. Nevertheless, under these conditions, it was shown that there was a marked augmentation of glucose-stimulated insulin secretion by GLP-1 [ 27 ], which showed that under in vivo conditions, glucose was only one regulator of beta cell function.…”
