Glycated Hemoglobin Levels in Metabolic Syndrome Patients

Abstract: Objectives: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a cluster of several metabolic disorders including hyperglycemia, reduced high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and raised triglyceride level in serum, hypertension, and abdominal obesity. Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is used as one of the diagnostic criteria for diabetes and diagnostic tool for MetS. Methods: The present study was conducted at Prasad Institute of Medical Sciences. The study includes 150 patients with MetS as a case and 150 healthy volunteers as a … Show more

“…Glycated haemoglobin gives a reflection of mean glucose control of an individual within 3 months and has been employed in the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes (Mandal and Bhatt, 2020). Glycated haemoglobin has also been observed to be significantly high among patients with MetS (Mandal and Bhatt, 2020). In another study by Lemke et al (2017) in the USA, years of working as a driver and the number of hours spent at work a day were observed to be associated with the incidence and severity of MetS among long-haul truck drivers (Lemke et al , 2017).…”

“…On the contrary, a protective role was observed for alcohol consumption (38.28%) among this same group of people. “…Despite research on the concentration of creatinine, urea, and microalbuminuria in Diabetes mellitus, as well as comparison studies between Juvenile diabetes and Diabetes mellitus for identical variables have rarely been reported. Few research [12][13][14] has examined the relationship between blood creatinine and urea levels, which are indicators of GFR, and the length of diabetes and the glycemic index (glycosylated hemoglobin levels). Nephropathy is a consequence of long-term diabetes that has been linked to microalbuminuria and hypertension in numerous investigations [12][13][14].…”

Nephropathy is a consequence of long-term diabetes that has been linked to microalbuminuria and hypertension in numerous investigations [12][13][14]. Although the precise origin of diabetic nephropathy is uncertain, advanced glycation products, hyperglycemia, and cytokine activation are some of the suggested reasons.…”
