“…Self‐condensation of glycerol in the presence of appropriate catalysts leading to different structures for rigid/flexible PU foams is also possible . It may be both intermolecular to produce flexible linear polymers, or intramolecular to give cyclic species and branched structures . High functionality low molar mass poly‐glycerols may act as starters for manufacturing rigid polyurethane foams employing different chain extenders …”

“…24 It may be both intermolecular to produce flexible linear polymers, or intramolecular to give cyclic species and branched structures. 25 High functionality low molar mass poly-glycerols may act as starters for manufacturing rigid polyurethane foams employing different chain extenders. 24 One common characteristic of poly-glycerols is their biocompatibility, an attractive feature for a wide variety of medical and biomedical applications.…”

“…Various applications of glycerol can be found in the literature, such as dehydrogenation, oxidation 80) , condensation 81) , ... Hereafter, we will discuss about glycerol conversion to acrolein and acrylonitrile in the gas phase, before describing glycerol upgrading to fine chemicals as well as to H2 in the liquid phase.…”

“…This strongly encourages the manufacturers to produce PGs directly from glycerol. Currently, in Europe, manufacturers such as Solvay Chemicals, Lonza and, recently, Spiga Nord produce PGs from refined glycerol deriving from the biodiesel and oleochemicals industries [2].…”
