Glycoarray: A savior in an arduous sea?

Abstract

Glycoarray is a dot-blot assay for screening up to 300 antibodies against glycolipids. This powerful technique can identify anti-glycolipid antibodies as biomarkers from candidate pools, and help discover new ones. In this issue of the journal, Delmont et al. compare glycoarrays with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for routine neuroimmunological diagnostic testing.Gangliosides, a family of sialic acid-containing glycosphingolipids, are major target antigens for autoantibodies in Guillain-Barr e syndrome (GBS) and its related conditions.
