The article presents the results of the second annual Scoping review conducted by the EBTA Research Task Group members aimed to map the trends emerging from the research on the solution-focused approach published in 2023. Out of 120 articles published in 2023 and added to the SFA PubList by EBTA, 84 were research articles that were reviewed for the main characteristics of publication, context and sample, research methodology, intervention, and main findings on the outcome and process of the solution-focused approach. Additionally, the current review expanded the scope of analysis by including several additional aspects, such as dropout rates, the means to ensure fidelity, and the main solution-focused elements used in the researched solution-focused interventions. Along with the quantitative analysis and a summary of the main trends compared with the ones from the previous review, related issues, open questions, and suggestions for further research directions and quality are discussed. An overall conclusion can be made on the accumulation of more and more evidence for the efficacy and effectiveness of the solution-focused approach in various contexts coming from randomized-controlled trials and experimental studies, which are more often published in respectable scholarly journals. Future studies could look more into the process and mechanisms of change specific to the solution-focused approach, alongside the comparison of outcomes and processes with other established approaches.
