Gold‐functionalized stainless‐steel wire and tube for fiber‐in‐tube solid‐phase microextraction coupled to high‐performance liquid chromatography for the determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

Abstract: A fiber-in-tube solid-phase microextraction device based on a gold-functionalized stainless-steel wire and tube was developed and characterized by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. In combination with high-performance liquid chromatography, it was evaluated using six polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons as model analytes. Important parameters including sampling rate, sample volume, organic solvent content and desorption time were investigated. Under optimized conditions, an onl… Show more

“…Compared with these methods, SPME has higher sensitivity, less time and solvent consumption. As a specific form of SPME, in‐tube SPME has been widely used in various fields, like as pharmaceutical, biochemistry, food and environmental analysis and so on , that can get online quick extraction and sensitive analysis via combining with HPLC . The extraction performance depends on the extraction coatings, and the development of efficient coatings is the most important for in‐tube SPME.…”

“…Commercial GC columns were early used as in‐tube SPME device . Then fused‐silica capillary , metal tube , and polyether ether ketone (PEEK) tube were modified with coating materials for in‐tube SPME. PEEK tube is suitable for in‐tube SPME because of high‐pressure resistance, good flexibility, and easy cutting.…”

“…In particular great efforts were made to the metal‐based fibers such as stainless steel , zinc , gold , silver , titanium , and nitinol wires. Moreover the hybridization of NMs with metallic substrates is very interesting in SPME because it combines the strong extraction capability of NMs with unusual mechanical strength of metallic substrates .…”
