Gold(I) Complexes of Secondary and Tertiary Amines. Crystal Structure of Triphenylphosphineaurio(I)qinuclidinium Tetrafluoroborate

Abstract: Gold(I)-N itrogen Bond, Secondary Amine, Tertiary Amine, Quinuclidine, X-RayThe secondary amine piperidine and the tertiary amine quinuclidine (l-azabicyclo[2.2.2]-octane) were reacted in TH F with one equivalent of triphenylphosphinegold(I) tetrafluoro borate, [Ph3PAu]+ BF4", to give the m onoaurated ammonium salts of formula [R"NHp_")AuPPh3]+ BF4~ (n = 2, 3). The compounds were obtained as crystalline solids in good yields, and were characterized by IR and N M R spectroscopy as well as mass spectrom etry and… Show more

“…The crystal structure of 5 ( Figure 1) consists of [Au(NH 2 Ar)(PPh 3 )] ions and triflate anions. The cation shows the gold atom in an almost linear environment (P-Au-N 178.10 (11)8) with AuÀN (2.112(4) ) and AuÀP (2.2376 (12) ) bond lengths similar to those found in the related complexes [Au(NMe 3 )(PPh 3 )]ClO 4´C H 2 Cl 2 [38] (2.108(7) and 2.231(2) ), [Au(quinuclidine)(PPh 3 )]BF 4 [40] (2.11(1) and 2.240(4) ) and [Au(NH 2 tBu)L]BF 4 (L PMe 3 , PMePh 2 ) [41] (2.105(8) ± 2.11(1) and 2.235(3) ± 2.236(3) ). The last two complexes are the only ones related with 5 that contain a primary amine.…”

“…Although gold(I) mono-and bisphosphine compounds have been extensively studied [12] together with their mechanisms of cytotoxity and anti-tumour activity [13], bidentate gold(I) compounds that utilise both a hard and soft donor atom are only poorly represented in the literature [14]. Among the 'hard' donor type atoms, the co-ordination chemistry of gold(I) oxygen compounds [15,16] shows a distinct paucity in the literature, while gold(I) complexes with nitrogen donor functions are more common yet less stable than their phosphine analogues [17,18].…”

“…An early example has been the (quinocludine)(triphenylphosphine)gold(I) tetrafluoroborate, with an N-Au-P axis [7]. In the course of the present and some earlier studies, a similar complex with NEt3 and (o-tolyl^P was isolated and struc turally characterized.…”
