“…BEYRICHIDISCUS. -This small bellerophontiform mollusc is known from a single species, B. fecundatus Linsley & Peel, recovered from the Silurian Burgsvik Sandstone of Gotland (Linsley & Peel 1983). Like Praematuratropis, Beyrichidiscus has a prominent keel and lateral swellings (called cruminae by Linsley & Peel) which create a well-developed furrow adjacent to the umbilici.…”

“…Linsley & Peel made no mention of any extensive inductural deposits in Beyrichidiscus, but as only faint growth lines were noted and as preservation did not permit determination of shell structure we cannot rule out such an inductural covering. Linsley & Peel (1983) stated that the sediment associated with Beyrichidiscus was a bioclastic calcarenite. We presume, as did they, that this would probably be a readily penetrable medium for an infaunal mollusc.…”

“…A number of relevant studie exist, e.g., Horny (1970) and Peel (1977a) discu sed inhalant emarginations in fossil lergomya while ), Peel (1980a. Linsley & Peel (1983) and Peel & Yochelson (1987) discussed more strongly coiled species. Linsley & Kier (1984) ba ed their proposal of the molluscan Class Paragastropoda on functional morphologieal analysis while used this approach as the basis for formalising the separation of the two clas es Tergomya and Helcionelloida.…”

“…Similarly, Horny (in press, a) describes umbilical sinuses in Sinuitopsis strongly indicative of tergomyan affinities. Functional morphological analysis of the type employed by Linsley ( , 1978, Linsley & Peel (1983; see also Peel, 1974) and others offers a potential solution.…”
