Gradual hydrophobization of silica aerogel for controlled drug release

Abstract: A gradual hydrophobization process of silica aerogel is presented, with minimal impact on porosity and transparency. Applicability is demonstrated in gradual tailoring the release rate of soluble and insoluble variants of a model drug, chlorhexidine.
