Graft polymerization of vinyl monomers initiated by peroxycarbonate groups introduced onto silica surface by Michael addition

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The introduction of peroxycarbonate groups onto a silica surface and the graft polymerization of vinyl monomers initiated by peroxycarbonate groups introduced onto a silica surface were investigated. The introduction of peroxycarbonate groups onto a silica surface was achieved by Michael addition of amino groups introduced onto the silica surface to t-butylperoxy-2-methacryloyloxyethylcarbonate (HEPO). The amount of peroxycarbonate groups was determined to be 0.17 mmol/g. The graft polymerization of v… Show more

“…[7][8][9][10]35,36 During the polymerization in organic solvents, it was confirmed that the grafted polymer chains propagate from the surface radicals formed by the thermal decomposition of azo and peroxyester groups introduced onto the surface. Therefore, we designed the radical graft polymerization of vinyl monomers from silica nanoparticle surface initiated by azo and peroxycarbonate groups in a solventfree dry-system.…”

“…It is known that surface modification by grafting of polymers onto nano-sized silica is an effective way to improve its dispensability in an organic polymeric matrix and its compatibility with the polymeric matrix, thus enhancing the properties of the composite materials. 2,3 There were a variety of attempts to achieve polymer grafted nano-sized silica composite. 4 In-situ disperse polymerization was one of the most effective methods.…”
