“…7A) is rarely found in aeolian deposits. It is characteristic of areas with considerable wind dynamics (Sarre & Chancey, 1990;Besler, 1996;Wang et al, 2003). It has also been referred to sediments derived from wash-out on slopes (Twardy, 2004).…”

“…At present, three models are used to describe mean grain-size patterns for desert sand dune sediments: finer crest, coarser crest, and no difference (Lancaster, 1986;Livingstone and Warren, 1996). Studies on sediment grain size and distribution on dune surfaces have included reversing dunes (Lancaster et al, 2002), crescent dunes (Ahlbrandt, 1979;Qian et al, 2011), transverse dunes (Ha and Wang, 1996;Qian et al, 2011), dune networks (Ha, 1998;Ha et al, 1999), echo dunes (Qian et al, 2012), and linear dunes (Lancaster, 1986;Wang et al, 2003). Many studies have focused on grain size and distribution in sand seas such as China's Taklimakan Sand Sea (Wang et al, 2003), Tengger Desert (Ha and Wang, 1996), Kumutagh Desert , Badain Jaran , and Ejina desert basin , and in southern Africa's Namib Desert (Lancaster, 1995) and Kalahari Desert (Thomas, 1988).…”

“…Grain size variations in desert and coastal sand dunes have been commonly used to understand transport and depositional mechanisms (Wang et al 2003). Poorly to moderately sorted sand dunes occur within a short transport distance and close proximity to the source area of sediments (Blount and Lancaster 1990).…”
