Gram-positive bacterial resistant strains of interest in animal and public health

Abstract: Among multiresistant Gram-positive microorganisms, stands out methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus (MRS), an opportunistic pathogen associated with hospital acquired and community infections reported in medicine and large increase in reports of veterinary medicine. In veterinary medicine, numerous reports regarding several species of animals have been described. MRS is intrinsically resistant to all β-lactam drugs. In veterinary medicine, numerous reports regarding several species of animals have been describe… Show more

“…The early identification in animals has become an important step in minimizing the transmission of antibacterial resistance. The increase in the number of multidrug-resistant bacteria in animals and humans demonstrates the need to develop and implement measures that monitor and control the diffusion of this resistance [18,28]. It is possible that the increased resistance is linked to the constant exposure to these drugs and the subsequent selective pressure caused by the transfer of resistance genes between strains [29].…”

“…Resistant isolates of S. pseudintermedius methicillin (MRSP) have been reported worldwide in veterinary clinics and hospitals. MRSP bacteria are recognized as a major pathogen due to multidrug resistance and the associated difficulty in treatment of infections [17,28].…”

“…There are reports of dissemination of several resistant microorganisms throughout the pig meat production cycle. Among these microorganisms, some stand out by their high morbidity, multiresistance, and involvement in outbreaks, including Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus spp., Escherichia coli, and Salmonella spp., which cause infections in humans and in animals (HAMMERUM et al, 2014;OLIVEIRA et al, 2011;SFACIOTTE et al, 2015).…”

“…Of the 18 samples of Staphylococcus, 13 (72.23%) were susceptible to vancomycin in disk diffusion test, in five (27.77%), the MIC test for correct assessment is required. Until now has not reported any sample VISA or VRSA in veterinary medicine due to scarce amount of study front of resistance to glycopeptides (Monchique, 2013;Sfaciotte et al, 2015b).…”
