“…There are conflicting reports on the effects of G-CSF on IL-10 in adults as in neonates; so, no additional interpretation is offered. 43 None of our subjects treated with rhG-CSF acquired an infection in the subsequent 28 days, suggesting a possible prophylactic benefit of prior exposure as previously proposed. 12 Additionally, these reports noted the possibility that other indirect benefits might occur through an initially unanticipated effect of rhG-CSF on the inflammatory process itself.…”

“…For this substudy, the clinical data comprised of APACHE II [14], SOFA -score [15,16], admission diagnosis, and laboratory values for white blood cell (WBC), neutrophil count and inflammatory mediators: (Interleukin (IL)-6, Interleukin (IL)-10, soluble E-selectin (sE-selectin) and soluble Interleukin 2 receptor (sIL-2R) from baseline and day 3 [17]. …”

“…Takala and colleagues [1] investigated the effect of therapy with granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) fi lgrastim on systemic infl ammation by determination of levels of soluble E-selectin, interleukin(IL)-10, IL-6, and soluble IL-2 receptor in patients with pneumonia, sepsis and other infections.…”

“…However, upregulation of such anti-infl ammatory factors as soluble tumour necrosis factor(TNF)-a receptor type I and II, and IL-1 receptor antagonist by G-CSF [3] may be the main anti-infl ammatory effect and more important than the infl uence of G-CSF on IL-10 [4]. In the present study by Takala et al [1] data on the infl uence of a short-term G-CSF therapy on other anti-infl ammatory factors are lacking. The reported reduction of IL-10 levels in the G-CSF-treated group was subtle and did not affect clinical course.…”
