Graphene oxide hybrid with amine‐terminated poly(amidoamine) dendrimers encapsulating Pt nanoparticles for electrochemical oxygen reduction reaction

Abstract: We synthesized Pt nanoparticles using amine-terminated poly(amidoamine) dendrimers to hybridize the nanoparticles encapsulated inside dendrimers with graphene oxide (GO) sheets. The resulting Pt-GO hybrid composites revealed improved electrocatalytic activity in oxygen reduction reaction compared with GO sheets.

“…The nearly homogeneous metallic Pt nanoparticles in all five G6‐OH‐Pt m were also verified with the absence of any characteristic absorbance peaks of unreduced Pt 2+ in UV‐Vis absorption spectra of the G6‐OH‐Pt m ( m = 220, 330, 550, 880, and 1320; Figure 3). 40,52 Instead, we observed only a featureless broad absorbance spanning the long wavelength range in their UV‐Vis absorption spectra, which was ascribed to the formation of reduced Pt nanoparticles as reported previously 41,54 . It is also worth noting that the UV‐Vis absorption spectra were obtained before removing sacrificial Cu ions added during the galvanic synthesis process.…”

However, the characteristic absorbance band at about 300 nm of the complexed Cu ions within G6-OH dendrimers was negligible compared to the broad absorbance spanning the long wavelength range.…”
