The presence of an immiscible oleic phase can adversely affect the foam stability. Nevertheless, under miscible conditions gas and oil mix in different proportions forming a phase with a varying composition at the proximity of the displacement front. Therefore, it is important to understand how the compositional variations of the front affect the foam behavior. In this study through several core-flood experiments under miscible condition, three different regimes were identified based on the effects of the mixed-phase composition on CO 2 foam-flow behavior: In Regime 1 the apparent viscosity of the in-situ fluid was the highest and increased with increasing x CO2 . In Regime 2 the apparent viscosity increased with decreasing x CO2 . In Regime 3 the apparent viscosity of the fluid remained relatively low and insensitive to the value of x CO2 . Hot solvent assisted oil recovery is a low emission-intensity oil recovery method from heavy oil resources. This method is particularly promising for fractured reservoirs where the application of current thermal methods may involve challenges associated with heat loss and early breakthrough. In this study a new model of heat and mass transfer for oil recovery from a single matrix block of a naturally fractured reservoir using a hot miscible solvent is developed. Due to the difference in magnitude between thermal and mass diffusivities, heat diffuses beyond the solvent-oil interface and there is no significant convective heat transfer. This results in a reduction of oil viscosity in the centre of the matrix block and a vertical convective flow pattern instead of parallel to the oil-solvent interface observed during cold solvent injection. Using this model optimisation graphs are developed to perform a fast qualitative assessment of the applicability of a hot solvent assisted gravity drainage process in naturally fractured reservoirs with various parameters without the need of complex simulations and experiments. An algorithm is presented to estimate the recovery time or target injection temperature of potential hot solvent assisted oil recovery processes using these optimisation graphs. This can reduce computational time and provide a quick evaluation of the hot solvent assisted gravity drainage process in naturally fractured heavy oil reservoirs.

Controlling the spatial configuration of conductive fillers in thin composites by a facile strategy is critical to widely commercial use these materials for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding applications. In this work, a series of free-standing thin Ni/polyvinyl chloride (PVC) films with the same composition just systematically varied Ni particles dispersion states was prepared by solution casting method. The relationships between the structure and properties were also investigated. Ni particles motion was governed by evaporation and sedimentation during solvent evaporation with the presence of soluble PVC influencing the casting solution viscosity. The experimental results fit the 1D model. In dilute casting system, the effective concentration of Ni particles in the lower part of the film was significantly enhanced and a dense, closed packed conductive network was formed. This special distribution of Ni particles was found to play a key role in the corresponding properties. Compared to the uniform film, the film which was fabricated from the casting solution containing 0.03 g/mL PVC, exhibited much better electrical conductivity and EMI shielding performance. Furthermore, the detailed study shows that the obtained thin film exhibited excellent EMI SE values per unit film thickness of 200 dB/mm. Meanwhile, the resultant films possessed thermal conductivity of 0.32$0.59 W/(mÁK) depended on whether a Ni continuous network formation throughout the whole film in the temperature range of 30$608C. Our study results pave thus the way for scalable fabrication of substrate-free systems that have advantages in multifunctional complex devices.
