“…As shown from Figure a to 4e, exposed SCFs could be observed from all these fracture surfaces. For the untreated SCF/PEEK composites, the pulled out SCFs did not have any remaining PEEK matrix on the surface, and the gaps between fibers and the PEEK matrix were quite huge (Figure a), indicating a relatively weak interfacial adhesion . Oppositely, the images of the modified SCFs and PEEK matrix were tightly integrated without significantly gaps, this elucidated that PI coating on the carbon fibers could effectively improve the bonding and compatibility between the SCFs and the PEEK matrix.…”

“…PES reinforced by graphene oxide (GO)‐coated SCFs and SGFs have been investigated by our group and it is shown that the tensile and flexural properties of PES both at room temperature and a typical cryogenic temperature of 77 K are effectively enhanced by the addition of GO coated‐SGFs and SCFs. . In addition, it was reported that the wear performance of PES composites incorporated with individual SGFs or SCFs was improved by an order of two and three, respectively .…”

“…Polyethersulfone (PES) is an amorphous engineering thermoplastic consisting of repeated phenyl, ether, and sulfone groups, which can be processed with conventional plastic processing equipment . The heat deflection and glass transition temperature of PES is as high as 200 and 225°C, respectively, which enables its outstanding thermal stability with operation temperature up to 180°C .…”

“…In recent decades, chopped carbon fiber (CCF)‐ or short carbon fiber (SCF)‐reinforced polymer composites have been experimentally and theoretically investigated and extensively applied in automotive, aerospace, electronics, medicine, sporting goods and transportation, because of their attractive mechanical properties, good processability, low manufacturing costs and so on . Among the polymer matrices for these composites, significant attention has been paid to thermoplastics due to their recycling convenience, no requirement for curing stage and mass production capability compared with traditional thermosetting resins.…”
